Open Positions

Position Title: Software Engineer, Full Time

Location: San Diego, CA

Position Description: Responsible for helping to develop software for the Hamilton Star Liquid Handler. As an entry level Software Engineer you will be tasked with addressing system bugs, low level test client development, toll development, software testing, and custom support for API and other custom integration tasks. In addition, Tasks will also include generating test plans, test results and other documentation as required. Interfacing with bench scientists to accurately migrate manual processes to the automated instrument.

Required Qualifications:

  • .NET C#, Object Oriented Design (OOD), SQL, UML, WCF, WPF, RESTful, Robotics / Motion Control experience is desired.
  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Bioengineering, Electrical Engineering, or an Engineering field with experience in software.
  • Knowledge in biology or diagnostic development is a plus.
  • Excellent Communication skills.
  • Capable of working in a cross functional team environment.
  • 3 years of biology related laboratory course work.
  • 3D spacial analytical ability a must.
  • Knowledge of mechanics and machining operation a plus.

Scientist, Full Time

Location: San Diego, CA

Position Description: Assist in development and validation of microfluidic chips and instrumentation for analysis of circulating tumor cells, CTCs, in test and clinical samples.

Responsibilities Include: Execution of existing benchtop and on-chip cellular and molecular assay protocols, quality control testing, optimization of assay performance, report writing, preparation of SOPs.

Required Qualifications: PhD in chemistry, biochemistry or molecular biology with relevant laboratory experience. Post-doctoral or industry experience related to surface modification for attachment of various biological molecules or DNA linkers. Hands on experience in bench top assays for molecular and cellular analysis, cell culture maintenance and expansion, extraction and purification of circulating markers, such as nucleic acids, proteins, and exosomes, from biological samples, bioassay development and troubleshooting.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and ability to follow the detailed procedures in existing protocols are essential. Experience in fluorescence microscopy and microfluidics is a plus.

Required Technical Expertise

  • Thorough knowledge of surface chemistry for attachment of various biological molecules as well as oligonucleotides
  • Knowledge of polymer surface chemistry
  • Competence in designing modified oligonucleotide linkers for surface attachment
  • Hands on experience with development of procedures to quantitatively determine surface density of attached molecules
  • Competent in writing up protocols and committed to detailed note-taking

Microfabrication and Assay Development Research Scientist / Postdoctoral Scientist, Full Time

Location: Lawrence, Kansas

Position Summary: Support of company microfabrication needs for ongoing R&D and commercialization efforts of cell free DNA applications, quality control of microfluidic devices, work with the application scientists on microfluidic assay development and troubleshooting. This position reports directly to the Director of Advanced Research.

Responsibilities Include: Fabrication and testing of microfluidic devices for molecular and cellular assays in support of ongoing product development efforts, evaluation of microfluidic chip performance, generation of standard operating procedures for fluidic chip fabrication and operation, development and troubleshooting of on-chip bioassays, preparation of summary progress reports.

Required Qualifications: MSc or PhD in engineering or physical sciences with relevant microfabrication and assay development experience at academic or industrial level. Hands on experience in microfabrication methods, such as optical lithography, wet etching, and microreplication, microstructure characterization methods, such as profilometry, SEM, and AFM, general cleanroom procedures and equipment operation, conventional machining or 3D printing techniques, development and troubleshooting of microfabrication protocols. Hands on experience in bench top assays for molecular and cellular analysis including extraction and purification of biomarkers, such as nucleic acids, proteins, and exosomes, from biological samples, bioassay development and troubleshooting. Working knowledge of instrument control and data analysis software, for example LabVIEW and MatLab, and engineering drafting software, such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD, is a big plus. The candidate must be motivated and self-directed, yet able to follow the detailed procedures in existing protocols. Independence is encouraged, teamwork is essential.

Laboratory Manager/Research Associate, Full Time

Location: San Diego, California

Position Summary: Establish laboratory facility for cellular and molecular biology operations. This involves establish laboratory techniques and perform complex laboratory procedures to contribute to the timely completion of microfluidics based processes.

Responsibilities Include: Assist in laboratory set up including equipment and supply purchasing. Oversee safety standards for laboratory staff. Create laboratory standard operating procedures and train staff. The successful candidate will be expected to exhibit individual initiative, work independently; be technically proficient and accurate; effectively communicate in both written reports and presentations; initiate and ensure compliance with applicable safety procedures; and possess attention to detail and organization.

Required Qualifications: BS in bioengineering or related field plus 3 years of industry experience. Experience in blood based diagnostic analysis is a plus, knowledge in liquid biopsy, strong molecular and cellular background would be excellent. Strong leadership and able to grow into a role supporting a larger technical team.

Required Expertise:

  • Ensuring compliance with safety procedures and waste disposal
